July and August at Bramble Cottage

This year has been a roller coaster for the garden here at Bramble Cottage. From the beginning of June we had weeks of hot dry weather that continued right through to the end of July. It was a struggle to keep some plants alive, even well established shrubs began to suffer, cracks appeared in the ground but weeds still managed to grow…

There were enough flowers to make a good show at Creake Abbey Farmers Market though at the beginning of the month and with lots of watering the Sweet Peas really started to do well

One of my favourite summer flowers is Achillea. This year the beds in the Flower Garden flowered early and were over early because of the dry conditions…but the colours were so beautiful while they lasted

There were plenty of orders for bouquets through the month. There is so much choice of summer flowers to use, with cornflowers, echinops, nigella, snaps, ammi and phlox to name just a few…

With larkspur coming to an end towards the end of July, I tried my hand at making natural confetti with the petals…

…and I was very pleased with the result. Natural petal confetti will be available to order soon so watch this space! At the end of the month the Eastern Region of Flowers From the Farm created a display at the Sandringham Flower Show. We were lucky enough to exhibit in the Royal Marquee for the second year running, a huge amount of hard work by the growers and florists in the region…

The design was based on the colour wheel with colours from green, yellow, orange and red to pinks, mauves, blues and white and was created by Cel of Forever Green Flower Company, the structure was provided by Julie of Hillcrest Nurseries…it was a huge effort from all the growers and florists in the Eastern Region who can be found on the FFTF website. Our exhibit won a large Gold and we were all very proud!

August finally brought some welcome rain and the Flower Garden started to look better. There were plenty of order for bouquets, lots of choice of flowers and colours…

It’s lovely to get messages about my flowers… ‘Carol your bouquet is glorious. Thank you for creating such a beautiful gift. M.’

Soft colours for August weddings in these Buckets of Blooms…

And so much colour in the garden through the month…

In July and August the garden really is ablaze with flowers…now at the end of August the mornings and evenings are cooler and there is a definite feel of autumn in the air…

I have so many plans for September – changes in the garden, seed sowing to start, bulbs to plant – see my Blog in a few weeks to hear what I’ve been up to at Bramble Cottage.

Visits to the garden are available by appointment from mid May to mid October. Take a look at the Our Garden page for more details
